although you may see random bits now and then, this journal is largely friends-only.

so you may be aware that there's this livejournal advisory board election going on ...

i've already voted for [info]jameth and i urge you to vote for him as well if for no other reason that he's being blamed for the fall of livejournal civilization. i figure that if a single person is able to bring down a civilization then you want to be on *that* side of the picture . . .

there are plenty of reasons to vote for him--he's not commanding a legion of sock puppets to vote for him in this election, he works to the benefit of our own community, and (most convincingly) he rides mass transit.

he has a platform upon which his election is based, and this platform includes all the usual things a thinking person might want: freedom from censorship with an emphasis on being responsible for your own journal, ...

i think he's bringing the right spirit to the table, and so i urge you all to vote [info]jameth now. polling ends in a few days, so go and vote now!

then we can all have delicious cake!

tomorrow is the last day to register to vote in the california primaries in february. you can download and complete a voter registration form here and MAIL IT to your county's elections people (addresses for these can be found here.)

if you've moved since you last voted you need to re-register.

do this *now* before you forget again!

click here ... max 2 vouchers per household

vouchers requested today will ship end of february or so and will be good for 90 days from then. not needed now if you have cable or satellite, but these providers will convert at a later date.

i'm getting them because, occasionally, dish flakes out ... plus i want to see what they're suggesting people buy. i already have a hdtv tuner in my living room (which opens up all the extra kqed digital channels) ... v. convenient.

i made the error of being at the best buy on geary last night ... they had a big pyramid stack of wii at the outgoing registers, and now i have one. i guess this means i'm ready for winter now ...

last week [info]patrock suggested the shure e2c headphones since i was whining about my sony fontopia headphones. now amazon has them on sale for $39.99. annoyed that i didn't wait a day (i placed an order somewhere else on friday) . . . but maybe someone else can get in on the deal

i managed to solve my wifi problem with one of these (although i bought it locally, needing instant gratification so i paid a bit more) ... configuration was easy peasy, spots in the house that only had two bars now have five, throughput is decent and it supports bridged mode ... what's annoying: for some reason marketing people for the various vendors have decided to make this information hard to find ...

wear some nice clothes now and then.

my wifi has gone flaky ... so i stopped into a best buy on the way home from work, grabbed a pre-n router off the shelf and went home thinking i'd solved my problem. turns out the box i picked up will do everything *except* bridge a wifi lan onto a wired lan. back to the store tomorrow (and probably a restocking charge, which pisses me off).

i've discovered that the laptop i wanted to use for radio stuff won't really fit into the space i have set aside for it. a 12" screen would have madea perfect fit. finding a 12" noteobok that doesn't suck and that isn't priced astronomically seems to be a challenge.

more whining later.

refurb iphones appear on the scene ... 4GB phones for $399 and 8GB phones for $499. same full warranty as new items ... click here to get started (scroll down until you see the blue tag marked "Special Deals" ... click through that, and you'll see all the deals--select "iPhones" and you're on your way to 20% off).

(i think i may have a limited (two or three) 5% off coupons as well, and i've had folks use these with refurb equipment in the past).

[edit: i can only generate a 5% off for a purchase of $999 or more ... so someone who was buying two iphones could use the coupon...]

tasha has decided she doesn't like him ... or perhaps she doesn't like the way he does things. marcus is undecided--he doesn't seem to mind except when bob wants to play with marcus' tail, which is a good bit of the time. marcus has had to learn, for instance, that when he sits on the kitchen chairs he can't let his tail hang off the end and idly flick it around now and then because that'll attract bob's attention.

bob has a bit to learn, too--his first approach is to whap at something ... followed closely by the flying leap. he's also very good at stalking--not just the other cats, but me as well.

he still has the nursing thing going on--he wants to nurse the end of my nose, which is kinda weird. usually he'll settle for my fingertips or hands.

his first vet visit was a success ... he goes back again next week, and his spay visit is about a month after that or so ..

more in a bit.
